Concord hosts the Peabody Ducks!
The Peabody Marching Ducks are most famous for their daily march along the red carpet of The Peabody Hotel in Orlando, Florida, for their swim in the hotel lobby fountain.
The Concord Suites is pleased to host the Peabody Ducks on their annual September visit to Avalon to participate in the Wetlands Institute Wings and Water Festival. The guests and staff are delighted to have them here and watch them march along under the watchful eye of their Duckmaster. They prefer a first floor suite with a view of the pool, although Donald will not let them swim, because he says, the pool is too large, he’d never be able to get them out!
Peabody Duck facts:
- The Peabody Ducks are five North American mallards - one drake (male) with white collar and green head, and four hens (females) with less colorful plumage.
- The Peabody Marching Ducks have appeared on The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson, Sesame Street, when Bert and Ernie celebrated Rubber Ducky Day, The Oprah Winfrey Show, and in People magazine and the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue, and at The Concord Suites in Avalon! In addition, they were once a question on Jeopardy.
- When off-duty from the Lobby, the ducks live in their Royal Duck Palace on the Peabody Orlando hotel's rooftop. The Peabody Ducks are raised by a local farmer and a friend of the hotel. Each team lives in the hotel for four to five months at a time, spending the succeeding four to five months on a “wild” farm learning the skills they will need to return to the wild full time at the age of 5.
